COON RAPIDS, Minn - At Riverwind Park in Coon Rapids, the baseball diamond is dominated by boys on Tuesday afternoon.

But 11-year-old Sydney Kehr, a female player, is ready to compete.

To help celebrate the Little League's 75th anniversary, Kehr was invited to participate in the All Star Game.

"She was told two weeks ago that she would be able to escort a major league legend to the mound for the tossing of the first pitch," said her father, Jeff Kehr. " Pretty cool deal for not only an 11-year-old, but any person."

But that all changed.

"We were informed by Coon Rapids National Little League that, that experience was taken away from her because she didn't play softball but baseball," Kehr said.

Kehr, reached out to KARE 11 and pleaded for help on social media after saying he was unable to get answers from representatives with Little League International. Fighting tears, he told us he was disappointed with representatives at the local and national levels of Little League.

"Nobody from Little League has said we are sorry, we made a mistake," he said. "I just want what is right. That is all I want."

Tuesday afternoon, KARE 11 News spoke with Little League International's Senior Communication Executive, Wayne Henninger. At first he told us "There are so many components and the pieces of the puzzle are being shuffled around and being coordinated right now."

Hours after that call, we heard from Matt Bourne with Major League Baseball. He delivered news the Kehr's hoped for.

"We are giving the opportunity to three Little League children to accompany a Twins Legend to the pitcher's mound for the ceremonial first pitch," He said. "We are also giving those children the opportunity to throw their own ceremonial pitch earlier in the program prior to the pregame."

Despite the emotional roller-coaster, Kehr said this experience hasn't spoiled his daughters love for the game.
