HOUSTON, Texas - Fans wishing to cheer on the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Friday's Texas Bowl can get tickets practically for free.
On Thursday, ticket broker sites including StubHub had plenty of tickets available with some selling for as little as 50 cents.
The Gophers are playing Syracuse at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Last year, Minnesota lost to Texas Tech in the same bowl game.
On Friday, fans arrived in Houston ahead of the game. KARE 11's Dave Berggren traveled with one of the charter planes carrying a few hundred fans from Minnesota. Several student buses also made the trip.
In all, the university sold about 3,500 tickets for the game.
Gophers fans held a pep rally at a downtown Houston hotel on Thursday.
Gophers coach Jerry Kill said that the Syracuse team will look familiar to fans. That's in part to the fact that Syracuse coach Scott Shafer and Kill both coached at Northern Illinois at different times and in different capacities.
"Each style is different, but really not so different," said Kill. "I think, both teams, I don't know if it's because we both came through Northern Illinois, but we both pride ourselves on great defense, not turning the ball over and playing physical, run the football, so if I'm a fan, I'm coming out to watch."
The Texas Bowl will kickoff at 5 p.m. The game will air on ESPN.
