OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Minnesota Golden Gophers' wrestlers Tony Nelson and Dylan Ness will compete in the NCAA finals on Saturday night.
Nelson will look to win his third straight championship. The heavyweight beat Iowa's Bobby Telford 4-3 on Friday.
"I've been in the big stage," said Nelson at the post-bout press conference, via GophersSports.com. "And first few times you're going to get nervous and everyone's looking at you, watching you, but for me this is my last year and I really want to go out there and enjoy it and being on that stage is something not many guys get to experience. And it's something I'm going to want to remember for the rest of my life."
Nelson would be the first Gopher to win three individual national titles. He will face Nick Gwiazdowski of North Carolina State who boasts a 45-2 overall record.
Redshirt junior Dylan Ness has made an impressive run as the No. 9 seed. He's gotten three pins in four bouts. He's already upset the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds.
Ness (157lb) will face off against Oklahoma State's Alex Dieringer.
"It's going to be a great match," Ness said, via GopherSports.com. I'm excited for it. He's a tough competitor and a great wrestler, and he's had a great year this year. It's going to be a good one."
Consolation (3rd, 5th and 7th place) matches will begin at 10 a.m. at Chesapeake Energy Arena and will be broadcasted on ESPNU/ESPN3. The championship matches will be broadcast live on ESPN beginning at 7 p.m.
