CHICAGO - A former Gophers defensive back will get a chance to return to TCF Bank Stadium as a pro the next two years.
That's because the Bears selected Minnesota safety Brock Vereen with the No. 131 overall pick in the fourth round.
Vereen, who is 5 feet 11 inches tall and 199 pounds, made 36 starts for the Gophers, 18 at safety and 18 at corner. Big Ten coaches voted him first-team all-conference as a senior. Vereen finished his career with 7.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and 22 pass breakups.
Vereen comes with some pedigree. His brother Shane is a running back for the New England Patriots.
Vereen will likely make an immediate impact on special teams for the Bears. He is slightly size deficient, but he is quick. He ran a 4.47 40-yard dash and his versatility is a huge plus.
