MINNEAPOLIS - As temperatures continue to hover around zero, the Minnesota Twins are canvassing the upper Midwest in an effort to get fans excited about the upcoming season.
Old faces and some new ones made a stop on Tuesday at Midtown Global Market. The group of players included Joe Mauer and newly acquired pitcher Ricky Nolasco.
Nolasco, along with Phil Hughes, were the new pitchers acquired in free agency this offseason. The Twins also resigned Mike Pelfrey. Each is expected to be in the starting rotation.
"I think the moves we've made, we definitely got better," said Mauer. "But that's on paper. You gotta go out there and play the games and I think everybody understands that. We're definitely moving in the right direction."
One of the newest members of the team says the key to gelling as a team is spending time together, whether it's during the Twins Caravan or Spring Training in Florida.
"You always gotta get out there and play with the guys," said Nolasco. "Everybody's gets used to each and that's what Spring Training is all about. Everybody gets ready and hopefully we can carry a strong spring training into the season."
Twins pitchers and catchers will report to Fort Myers on Feb. 16. The rest of the team will report on Feb. 21.
