MINNEAPOLIS - Joe Mauer had two hits and two RBIs, and the Minnesota Twins beat the White Sox 6-5 Sunday to complete their first four-game sweep against Chicago in 20 years.

"Anytime you sweep anybody it's a real good feeling, but when you have a four-game sweep it makes it even more gratifying," said Twins coach Terry Steinbach, who subbed for manager Ron Gardenhire after he was ejected in the third inning for arguing balls and strikes.

That third inning was a major bump in the road for Twins ace Phil Hughes. He struggled with command and allowed five runs in the inning while surrendering the 3-0 lead the Twins had earned in the first two innings.

"Hughes has been rock solid for us, and one thing about this game, it's rare to find a guy who is on every start," Steinbach said. Was he off a little bit today? Yeah, he was off a little bit, but the bullpen picked him up, picked our team up."

Anthony Swarzak and Casey Fien combined for three shutout innings of relief and Jared Burton earned his first save since May 30, 2013, with a perfect ninth. Twins closer Glen Perkins was not available after pitching in each of the last three ballgames.

After Chicago scored five times in the third for a 5-3 lead, Brian Dozier and Mauer had RBI singles and Josh Willingham added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to put the Twins ahead for good.

Mauer also had an RBI single in the second inning. He had six RBI in the the four-game series increasing his season total to 22 RBI.

Kurt Suzuki also added three hits in the game improving his batting average to .321.

The White Sox have lost eight straight games against AL Central rivals.

The Twins last swept Chicago in a four-game series June 9-12, 1994. After losing five straight games on the road, the Twins improved to 36-38 with Sunday's win. The Twins hit the road again starting a series in Anaheim on Tuesday.
