MINNEAPOLIS - An agreement on a new contract was the trigger to a deal to move All-Star forward Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to an NBA league source.
Yahoo Sports reported Thursday that Love agreed to opt out of his 2015 contract and ink a 5-year, $120 million deal with the Cavs. In exchange, that source says the Timberwolves will get 2014 No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins, 2013 No. 1 overall draft choice Anthony Bennett, and a 2015 first-round draft pick.
What makes this whole thing a bit uncomfortable is that league rules say the trade cannot be finalized and announced until Aug. 23, making it a long wait for two teams who are desperate to move forward.
