HOOVER, Ala. — Alabama is the preseason favorite to win the SEC football title, based on a vote of media members announced Thursday morning.

The Crimson Tide, which also had nine selections on the preseason All-SEC teams, finished with 154 points, well ahead of second-place Auburn (75). South Carolina, favored to win the SEC East Division, was the third-leading vote-getter (32). The Gamecocks were followed by Georgia (19), LSU (9), Ole Miss (2), Arkansas (1) and Mississippi State (1).

Alabama never has finished first in the five occasions the media has picked the Tide to win the league.

Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall (241) and wide receiver Sammie Coates (207) were among the offensive stars picked to be on the All-SEC first-team, and Todd Gurley (280) of Georgia and T.J. Yeldon of Alabama (281) were selected as first-team running backs. Alabama DB Landon Collins (274), Alabama LB Trey DePriest (253), Florida DB Vernon Hargreaves, III (243) and Ole Miss DL Robert Nkemdiche (239) received the most points on the preseason first-team defense.
