The former Wild center and resident tough guy was claimed off waivers Friday by the Buffalo Sabres
SAINT PAUL, Minn.- The next time Minnesota Wild players see former teammate Zenon Konopka they'd better be ready to put up their dukes.
The former Wild center and resident tough guy was claimed off waivers Friday by the Buffalo Sabres, who the Wild beat the night before 4-1.
Konopka, age 33, recorded 1 goal and 1 assist in 36 games with Minnesota this season before being placed on waivers Thursday. He led the team with 55 penalty minutes (PIM).
He has played in 323 career NHL games with Anaheim, Columbus, Tampa Bay, New York Islanders, Ottawa and Minnesota. Konopka was signed by the Wild as a free agent on July 1, 2012 and notched two points and 172 PIM in 73 games with Minnesota before a logjam at forward made him expendable.
