MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Lynx will look to defend its WNBA Championship starting on Friday in Washington.
On Monday, players and coaches gathered for Media Day at the Target Center practice facility.
"Everybody's going to be gunning for you. You're on the top so you're the one that they have to knock off," said Janel McCarville. "So that's the biggest difference."
The Lynx knows how it feels to be on top. They also won the championship two years ago. But it's still a shift in preparation and that's the challenge.
"We have to change our mindsets to being hungry to go get it to being hungry and want to keep it," McCarville said.
Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve also got some exciting news. She has been selected by USA Basketball to be an assistant coach on the 2014 women's world championship team.
University of Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma will be the head coach. Expect a few Lynx players on the team as well.
