Bloomington, MN - One of the hottest and most controversial new toys in technology, Google Glass went on sale to the general public for the first time Tuesday.

The device is only being sold for one day and will set you back $1,500. Is it worth it?

"It's a constant display right here," shows Greg Swan, a Google Glass Explorer who was hand-picked by the company last year to test the potentially revolutionary device.

"I use Google Glass primarily for taking pictures, for getting hands free status updates and for directions," says Swan.

He thinks this is just the beginning and app developers will be able to create new, revolutionary uses for the device.

Two other Minnesota explorers say reaction on the street has been interesting.

"I've had everything from 'you look so hot' to "do you have a disability?' says Josh Braaten.

"If they don't look down, they look at you with their eyes raised," adds Brandon Sullivan.

Like all new technology, the unknown can keep people on edge, particularly the misconception that Google Glass is recording video all the time. Backlash has even prompted a new term for Google Glass users: "glassholes".

"There's a lot of negativity about people who are wearing Glass on their face out of context," says Swan. "I've been in a conversation where someone has said, I don't want to talk to you with that on."

As Google Glass goes on sale to the general public for one day only, these early users advise caution and say it has a long way to go before becoming mainstream.

"People shouldn't consider this a final product today, says Braaten.

"It's a lot of money," adds Swan. "$1,500 is a lot of money for a piece of technology that is a 1.0 product that has a long way to go."
