Starting this summer, Flappy Bird will be airborne once again.

The creator of the hit mobile game, Dong Nguyen, confirmed in an interview with CNBC that Flappy Bird will return to mobile app stores this August. It will also boast a new feature: multiplayer.

Details of the interview were revealed by CNBC reporter Kelly Evans on Twitter.

Nguyen has said several times that he planned to bring back Flappy Bird, which he took down in February because he felt players were becoming too addicted. Prior to its removal, the game had surged to the top of the Google Play and Apple iTunes charts, prompting an onslaught of Flappy knockoffs.

"Flappy Bird has unexpected effects," said Nguyen in an interview with USA TODAY in February after he pulled the game. "It causes addiction (in) people. I think it is an unexpected problem ... and I have to remove it."

Since then, Nguyen appears to have experienced a change of heart. In a March interview with Rolling Stone, Nguyen hinted he would bring the game back. The game developer, based in Vietnam, told the magazine he was also working on other games, including a flying game called Kitty Jetpack.
