Local company sees roof rake sales soar

BUFFALO, Minn. -- While the winter storms in the Midwest and on the East Coast have made headlines, a division of Zirc Inc. based out of Buffalo, Minnesota is right behind making their own mark.

Known more for its dental manufacturing, the company doubles as a snow equipment removal maker and its product, the "Avalanche" is in high demand.

"It's just been a crazy ride this year, unbelievable," said owner Linda Robasse.

The "Avalanche" is a tool to remove snow from rooftops, working with gravity it slices through feet of snow at a time.

The company prepared to sell a few thousand of them throughout the entire winter, but have already exceeded expectations.

But unanticipated success has its drawbacks. While all of the other manufacturing lines are up and running, the "Avalanche" is on hold. Demand has been so great they're having a tough time getting all of the product in to make the tool.

In the meantime they ship out the stock they have on hand, anticipate when they'll be able to make more and wait for that next winter storm to hit with more orders to follow.

"We love the snowfall," said Robasse. "It's just been wonderful."
