Car KARE: Using diagnostics to fix what's wrong

The importance of responding to your check engine light

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - This week's car KARE tip is all about the importance of using diagnostics to test your vehicle if something is amiss.

For example, if the check engine light is visible on your dash, it is likely that something is wrong with your car.

The experts with Honest One Auto Care highly recommend a diagnostics test on your vehicle, and not putting it off for a long period of time.

“The very first step is to go out and have the codes pulled and that will tell us the severity of what the computer is picking up,” said Tony Minwegen owner of Honest One Auto. Some codes are more severe, some codes are less severe.”

Diagnostic codes then give the technician a starting point as to what the problem is. From there, they zero in on various components to find a solution.
