GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - A potent storm system will come crashing into the upper midwest late Saturday and continue into early Monday. The system is now just making it's way onto the Pacific northwest coast. It will march across the Rockies overnight into Friday and redevelop rapidly Friday night into Saturday over the plains.
Along with a ready supply of moisture the storm will also bring lots of warm air, which will create a variety of precipitation forms starting Saturday night in Minnesota.
Snow totals between 8 to 12 inches could fall in parts of west central, central and northern Minnesota. The way the track looks to take shape at this point would put the metro on the edge (of course!) of the warmer and colder air, giving us an initial mix of freezing rain and sleet, changing to a rain/snow/sleet mix during the day Sunday. The precip would then change over to all snow for a time Sunday night.
Accumulations will be reduced in the metro due to the presence of warmer air, but that track could still change with the storm still a few days from reaching us. Stay tuned!
