MINNEAPOLIS -- Rain and snow have been making there way across the state throughout the day. Rain/snow showers are moving into the western suburbs and into Minneapolis by 6pm. Look for slushy conditions this evening as precipitation slowly changes over to all snow early this evening.
Snow showers should then persist through the overnight into early Tuesday morning. Snowfall amounts will depend on how quickly rain/sleet changes over to snow. Generally, look for 1" to 2" of slushy snow accumulation by the morning commute Tuesday. A few spots could see even 2-3" within the metro.
Snow showers will taper off during the morning hours Tuesday followed by partial clearing for afternoon. Temperatures don't cool much behind this system - highs will reach the mid to upper 30s. We'll see another show of light snow Wednesday into Thursday.
The heaviest snow will fall in portions of northwest Minnesota. Anywhere from 2" to 5" of snow is possible from Moorehead, Bemidji, Thief River Falls and northeastward to International Falls. Icy conditions can be expected in southwest Minnesota where rain, freezing rain, and sleet are possible starting Monday morning through the afternoon.
