Jeff joined KARE 11 in January of 2015. Jeff earned his American Meteorological Society Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal in 2014.
Jeff grew up just west of the Twin Cities in Minnesota. He was educated at Iowa State University with a degree in Atmospheric Sciences. While at Iowa State, he participated in the campus-wide television network ISU-TV covering weather across the state of Iowa. He also was part of the campus-wide radio station KURE where he hosted a weekend morning Jazz show.
Prior to working at KARE 11, Jeff worked at WAVY-TV 10 in Portsmouth, Virginia covering Hurricanes and Nor'easters. He also worked at the Northlands NewsCenter in Duluth, Minnesota, covering severe weather from tornadoes to blizzards and temperatures as low as -46 degrees.
Outside of work I like to: Ski, golf, bike, surf, and occasionally play a video game.
When I was young, I wanted to be: A Meteorologist. In my 5th grade yearbook, under my picture, that was the job I wanted to be "When I grew up."
Describe your perfect day: Go skiing with friends and family in the morning with at least 12" of fresh snow. Take a quick flight out west and catch a few waves. Then play video games that night.
Favorite Season: Winter
Favorite sport to play: Skiing, golfing, and surfing are my favorite sports. Do video games count?
Most memorable weather event you ever worked on: I remember in January in 2011 temperatures dropped to -46°F at International Falls, MN. Also covering Hurricane Sandy in Virginia and North Carolina.
Why do you like your job: Because I get to talk about my favorite thing every day! Weather!
