KARE 11's Heidi Wigdahl receives Distinguished Alumna Award from DePaul University

DePaul's Center for Journalism Integrity & Excellence recognized Heidi for her "significant contributions to journalism."

CHICAGO — KARE 11 reporter Heidi Wigdahl is being recognized with a special honor at her alma mater, DePaul University in Chicago.

DePaul's Center for Journalism Integrity & Excellence announced Heidi would be awarded their Distinguished Alumna Award, in recognition for her "significant contributions to journalism."

Heidi graduated with a bachelor's degree from DePaul.

“We’ve watched Heidi grow at DePaul and ever since,” said Center co-director Don Moseley. “It is not only her outstanding work that distinguishes her, but also her willingness to mentor younger journalists across the country. She is truly exceptional.”

Heidi began her television journalism career in Rochester, Minnesota, then moved to Knoxville, Tennessee before joining KARE 11 in 2015. While at KARE, Heidi has received numerous awards for her work a multi-skilled journalist. She has also worked to put a spotlight on small businesses across the Twin Cities area in the weekly Behind the Business segment.

“To now be recognized by the mentors and school that set the foundation for my career as a journalist is an honor and a full circle moment for me,” Heidi said in a statement released by DePaul.

Heidi was joined at the awards ceremony by CBS News correspondent Bill Whitaker, who was awarded DePaul's Distinguished Journalist Award.
