Gia Vang joined KARE 11 in June of 2019 and is thrilled to be a part of the team!
Before moving to the Twin Cities, Gia was the evening anchor at a TV station in Fresno, California. She has also worked in Phoenix, Arizona; Kansas City, Missouri; and Eugene, Oregon. She has covered everything from major elections, to tornadoes and floods, to Super Bowl XLIX parties.
Gia graduated with a degree in journalism from Sacramento State in her hometown of Sacramento, California.
Gia comes from a huge family. Try 10 kids! She’s an aunt 15 times over as of this writing, but she wouldn’t have it any other way. Gia’s dad lives in St. Paul and her mom and immediate siblings still reside on the west coast.
On her free time, you can find her hanging out with family and friends, exploring the area either driving or hiking, heading to a concert, trying a new restaurant, watching movies, reading a good book, at a sports game, or talking a nice walk with her adorable dog, Teddy.
Here are a few fun facts about Gia:
- She doesn’t drink coffee
- Gia’s most prized possessions are her vinyl records
- Volunteer work consists largely of school visits because she loves education and children
- Gia can speak Hmong, and wants to learn how to read and write it
- Top three travel destinations right now: Laos, Bhutan, Madagascar
Wake up bright and early with Gia from 5 to 7 a.m. on KARE 11 Sunrise.
