ET has a behind-the-scenes look at Rogen and Theron's upcoming romantic comedy, Long Shot, in which the actor admits that making a movie with the Oscar winner had always been a goal of his -- but one that took years to accomplish.
"I really only wanted to make the movie with her, and it took me seven years to get successful enough to get Charlize Theron in our movie," he confesses with a laugh.
According to Theron, however, their team-up could have happened a lot sooner. "I've been a huge Seth Rogen fan," she says.
The movie, which stars Rogen as a journalist who spends time with his former babysitter, who is now running for president, is a big departure from Theron's usual films; it marks her first leading role in a true rom-com.
"I'm usually in movies where a lot of people die," she says with a laugh. "So I said, 'I think this could be fun.'"
Rogen, who also produces Long Shot with Theron, wanted to take it back to comedy basics. "What if we made the kind of movie I grew up watching that is actually romantic and actually funny?" he asked.
"It felt like we could go and explore a real relationship," Theron expresses, as Rogen hints that "sparks fly."
Long Shot hits theaters on May 3. Theron and Rogen opened up more about their movie while chatting with ET last week. Watch below.
