The Doobie Brothers are the first grandstand act announced for the 2020 MN State Fair.

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. — Winter hasn't even officially arrived, and already the Minnesota State Fair music crew is putting together its 2020 Grandstand Concert Series lineup.

On Monday the fair announced the venerable Doobie Brothers as the first confirmed act of the 2020 Great Minnesota Get-Together.

The Doobies will play the grandstand Friday, August 28 at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $69.25 and $54.25: They go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, December 6, either via etix.com or by calling 1-800-514-3849. There is also a small window of availability at the State Fair Box Office from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.

Not only is the Bay Area band celebrating its 50th anniversary, co-lead singer Michael McDonald is back on board with guitarist-singers Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons, and multi-instrumentalist John McFee.

The Doobie Brothers established themselves in the 1970s with a long run of hits, including “Listen to the Music,” “Jesus Is Just Alright,” “China Grove,” “Black Water,” “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” and “Long Train Runnin’.” The group changed direction a bit in 1975 by adding Michael McDonald, whose soulful vocals and songwriting led to the hits “What a Fool Believes,” “Minute by Minute,” “Takin’ It to the Streets,” and “You Belong to Me.”

All told the band has won four GRAMMY® Awards, sold more than 48 million records worldwide, and tallied five Top 10 singles and 16 Top 40 hits. Despite being together for 50 years, the band still plays close to 100 shows a year worldwide.

The Dirty Dozen Brass Band will open.
