Sun tea recipes

Sun tea is a method of slow cold-water brewing. The technique produces a gentler tea infusion that’s crisper and clearer than teas brewed the traditional way.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - There’s nothing like a delicious tall glass of Sun Tea on a warm summer day. Adding fresh fruit takes the sun-kissed beverage to another level.

Sun tea is a method of slow cold-water brewing. The technique produces a gentler tea infusion that’s crisper and clearer than teas brewed the traditional way.

The Marsh Executive Chef Lisa Sarazin shared two recipes:


HERBAL SUN TEA RECIPE

What you’ll need:

- ½ gallon glass jar with tight fitting lid
- 4 herbal tea bags or 4 T. loose tea such as Rishi Blueberry Rooibos
- Section of cheesecloth and butcher’s twine (if using loose tea)
- 1 sliced peach
- ¼ C. fresh mint leaves
- ½ gallon filtered water

1. Place loose tea in cheesecloth and tie tightly with butcher’s twine.
2. Fill jar with water and add tea sachet or bags.
3. Put sliced peach and mint into jar. Close lid.
4. Place outside in a spot with good sun exposure for 3 hours.
5. Remove tea bags. Refrigerate tea and serve over ice.


BLACK OR GREEN SUN TEA RECIPE

What you’ll need:

- ½ gallon glass jar with tight fitting lid
- 4 tea bags or 4 T. loose tea such as Rishi Jasmine Green or China Breakfast
- Section of cheesecloth and butcher’s twine (if using loose tea)
- 1 pint fresh strawberries
- ¼ C. fresh basil leaves
- ½ gallon filtered water

1. Place loose tea in cheesecloth and tie tightly with butcher’s twine.
2. Fill jar with water and add tea sachet or bags.
3. Put sliced peach and mint into jar. Close lid.
4. Place outside in a spot with good sun exposure for 3 hours.
5. Remove tea bags. Refrigerate tea and serve over ice.
