A Democratic lawmaker is staging a 24-hour sit-in on the House floor to call for stronger gun laws. It would make permanent a pilot program that has allowed news cameras in criminal courtrooms in some limited circumstances for sentencings only. News organizations argue that cameras promote public access and transparency to legal proceedings. Opponents say that it makes some witnesses reluctant to testify.
