BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - As you're planning your summer cookouts, many grocery stores now have their own apps to help make planning and shopping more convenient.

Bloomington-based The Nerdery helped design one of those apps, for midwest grocery chain HyVee.

"We wanted to create a very seamless, easy customer experience," said program manager Joe Doran. In the case of the HyVee and several other chains, that means giving customer the ability to make lists inside the app, as well as clipping virtual coupons that can be applied when scanning their app or store membership card at checkout.

For HyVee, their app also connects to their pharmacy and catering services.

Many grocery stores also tie in their apps to their store loyalty programs, where customers can earn savings toward other purchases.
