Cardiac arrest survivor participates in Heart Walk

Cardiac arrest survivor James Sand talks about the miracle of his life ahead of annual Heart Walk.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Come out to Target Field this Saturday, May 5 for the annual Twin Cities Heart Walk, join other community teams like cardiac arrest survivor James Sands and his wife Rachael.

For this Twin Cities couple, the Twin Cities Heart Walk is a chance each year to celebrate James’ life and have a goal of walking a little more of the finish line each year. James was out for a run in 2011 when he collapsed and suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 25.

Doctors told James’ family that he would be blind, paralyzed, and unable to breath on his own. He was given less than 1% chance of survival but after a six-month long coma, James overcame many obstacles to recover. He went through a lot of rehabilitation and three pacemaker surgeries and through it all he was determined to get better. Each year James walks the last half-mile of the Heart Walk with the help of his wife, Rachael.

The 2018 Heart Walk event is free admission, Target Field gates open at 7 a.m., and the walk has free family fun activities along the main concourse before the opening ceremonies.
