Firefly Sisterhood helping fight breast cancer

Illuminight 2018 is presented by The Firefly Sisterhood, a local nonprofit launched on Mother's Day 2014 with the goal of fostering one-to-one connections and support between breast cancer survivors and the recently diagnosed.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Good food, an awesome local female food entrepreneur and one mission: to support local women fighting breast cancer.

That’s the idea behind Illuminight 2018, presented by The Firefly Sisterhood, a local nonprofit launched on Mother’s Day 2014 with the goal of fostering one-to-one connections and support between breast cancer survivors and the recently diagnosed.

The Firefly Sisterhood exists to bring light to the emotional journey of breast cancer. As a local non-profit organization, The Firefly Sisterhood makes brilliant, one-to-one, highly personalized connections between women recently diagnosed with breast cancer and inspirational survivors (Guides).

“Sure, I had some dark moments – which only another woman who fought cancer would understand—but I knew I could reach out to my Firefly Guide at any time for support and encouragement.” – Firefly Program Participant.

Every woman facing breast cancer who reaches out to Firefly receives free, individualized attention, regardless of her health system or her diagnosis, age, and/or life experience. As for the Firefly Guides, all are breast cancer survivors who have gone through a screening process that includes a criminal background check, personal interview and peer-mentor training.

Support The Firefly Sisterhood at its signature event, Illuminight. Each featured chef is an accomplished woman with a strong influence in the thriving local restaurant or catering industry scene in the Twin Cities and share a commitment to helping to ensure no woman in our community faces a breast cancer diagnosis alone.
