GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Moving a loved one out of their home can be a very emotional process. Whether they lived there for 5 or 55 years, in a large house or in an apartment, sorting through their belongings and deciding what to take with and what to leave be behind can be overwhelming.

Sharon Fischman, Founder Empty The Nest, joined KARE 11 News @4 with tips on what to do.

Most families emptying their nests do not want to see their valued possessions turned into junk and there are ways to maximize re-use of these items and minimize waste.

Fischman explained that people's possessions don’t have to be discarded – they can go back into the community through donations and other items can be sold to people in need, and to a thriving community of recyclers and upcyclers.

Having a clean-out process and plan that is simplified and efficient is key to having it done stress free.
