Gia Vang teams up with Andrea Swensson, host of The Local Show on The Current, to bring you the best local shows to check out this weekend.

MINNEAPOLIS — FRIDAY

A group that came out of the heydey of the Minneapolis sound, The Suburbs are at First Avenue. They are joined by special guests Miloe and DJ Jake Rudh. The 18+ show starts at 8:00 p.m.

Ellis Delaney's album release for 'Ordinary Love' with guests The OK Factor, Desdamona and JJ Jones is at the Cedar Cultural Center. Doors for this all-ages show open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.

And if you're looking for a cool, cute and fun sound, Heart Bones and The Trappistines will be at Turf Club. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. and the 21+ show starts at 9:00 p.m.

SATURDAY 

A ton of amazing bands will celebrate the life of Ed Ackerson at First Avenue. Ed was a long time musician, producer and studio owner in the Twin Cities. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Ed Ackerson Family Fund and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Bands include The Jayhawks, Kraig Johnson & The Program, Mark Mallman, Two Harbors, BNLX, Polara and DJ Jake Rudh

Motion City Soundtrack will be playing three sold-out shows at the new music venue The Fillmore (hopefully you already got your tickets!). Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the all-ages show starts at 7:00 p.m.

Make sure you dress to impress for the Hmong Nouveau Magazine launch and fashion show is at Union Depot in St. Paul. Pop and R&B artist Ka Lia Universe will perform. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and the ticketed event runs until midnight.
