ALEXANDRIA, Va. — For weeks, Whitaker Weinburger's parents have been planning a surprise for their son's fourth birthday. Whitaker has been through a lot. At just a year old, he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.
After years of treatment, six rounds of chemotheraphy and 20 rounds of radiation, Whitaker's scans are finally clear.
For as long as they can remember, his favorite toy has been Bumblebee, the Transformer that turns into a yellow car.
"He will spot a bumblee bee, he's like a hawk eye for them and he yells bumblebee! He just loves them, he just loves yellow cars. I don't know where it came from, but it makes him happy so our whole family just rolls with it," said his mom, Erin Weinburger.
His mother put out a call on social media, asking people who own yellow cars to help with his birthday surprise.
The post spread quickly, and hundreds of people came to celebrate Whitaker's birthday Wednesday. Many of them strangers, drove their cars from as far as New York and North Carolina.
Dozens of yellow cars and trucks lined the path from Whitaker's front door, all the way to his school which is more than a mile away.
"I'm exploding, I'm happy, I'm just so happy that this happened," said Erin Weinburger.
