SANDWICH GENERATION: healthy aging is about more than staying fit!

Free interactive aging fair offers seniors in Minneapolis much needed community support.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minneapolis — Building healthy, active communities takes healthy citizens. Give your physical, mental and financial health a boost at the Nokomis Healthy Aging Community Fair Monday, October 7, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Nokomis Healthy Seniors Senior Citizen Center in Minneapolis. AARP Minnesota is partnering with several local organizations which serve the 50 and older population to present this interactive healthy aging community fair.

 

The event will showcase tools, tips, and daily practices geared towards improving overall health and well-being. The Nokomis Healthy Aging Community Fair is free, open to the public and includes sessions led by local experts on healthy aging topics-of-interest. These fun, informative, hands-on sessions will equip participants with new awareness of how to proactively boost physical, mental, and financial health as they age and continue to thrive in community.

BREAKOUT SESSION TOPICS INCLUDE:

  • BRAIN HEALTH & PERSONAL WELL-BEING
  • HOME PROTECTION & SAFETY
  • FRAUD & SCAM PREVENTION 
  • MEDICARE PLANNING
  • FIRE & CARBON MONOXIDE SAFETY

In addition to informative sessions, local Minneapolis organizations will host resource tables, and lunch will be include. A flu shot clinic will also be on hand. (bring your health insurance card) The health fair will wrap up with door prizes and a jazz lounge social hour, complete with a live band and dancing, courtesy of the 21st Annual Twin Cities Jazz Festival! The Nokomis Healthy Aging Community Fair is brought to you in partnership with Minneapolis City Councilmember Jeremy Schroeder, Ward 11, Nokomis Healthy Seniors, AARP Minnesota, and the City of Minneapolis Department of Neighborhood and Community Relations.
