Cookie Cart opening new St. Paul location

The location will serve 50 teens this year. In 2019, that number will double!

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Helping teens learn responsibility, leadership skills and life lessons through baking; that's the goal of Cookie Cart.

The award-winning North Minneapolis nonprofit bakery, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, has opened a second location in St. Paul.

Cookie Cart employs urban teens to "provide a safe, secure, creative and engaging space." The Minneapolis location serves 200 teens a year, and the St. Paul bakery will serve 50 teens this year. In 2019, that number will double!

For many teens, this is their first job.

The bakery was founded in 1988 by Sister Jean Thuerauf, who years earlier had started baking cookies with neighborhood teens and helping them do their homework.

Cookie Cart is hosting a Grand Opening community celebration of it's St. Paul bakery, located at 946 Payne Avenue, on Thursday, May 17 from 3-6 p.m. Don't worry - you WILL be able to buy cookies!
