GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Sunday at noon is the big border battle between the Vikings and the Packers at Lambeau Field! 

SIMEK's sent over some meatballs prepared two ways in honor of the classic feud - Beer Cheese Head Meatballs for Packers fans and Purple Pride Swedish Meatballs for Vikings fans. 

SIMEK’S BEER CHEESE HEAD MEATBALLS

10 minutes preparation time // 3-6 hours cook time

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg Original Meatballs
  • 1 Bottle of Beer
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 (10 ¾ oz.) cans cheddar cheese soup
  • 4 strips thick cut bacon, diced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • Pepper to taste

Process

  1. Add diced raw bacon into medium size saucepan and cook until done. Transfer to paper towel lined plate.
  2. In saucepan, add beer, 2-cans of soup, cheddar cheese, bacon and garlic and stir until well combined. Add pepper to taste.
  3. Add meatballs to crock pot and pour the beer cheese sauce over meatballs and stir.
  4. Cook for 3-4 hours on high, or 4-6 hours on low, stirring occasionally.

SIMEK’S PURPLE PRIDE SWEDISH MEATBALLS 

5 minutes preparation time // 3-6 hours cook time

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg SIMEK’S Original Meatballs
  • 2 cups grape jelly
  • Swedish Meatball Sauce
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

*If you are short on time substitute the homemade Swedish Meatball sauce for your favorite Swedish Meatball dry mix.

Directions

  1. Melt the butter in large saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour, continuing to whisk for about 30 seconds until golden.
  2. Slowly pour beef broth into saucepan, whisking until combined and thickened. Whisk in the heavy cream, stirring until thickened.
  3. Stir in the Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Put the frozen meatballs in crock pot. Pour gravy over meatballs and stir.
  5. Cook for 3-4 hours on high, or 4-6 hours on low, stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve with grape jelly for dipping.
