KARE in the Kitchen: Hot dog recipes for Opening Day

Tired of the same old hot dog recipes? Kitchen Window is whipping up some unique dogs for this baseball season!

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- It's the home opener for the Minnesota Twins, and Kitchen Window joined Alicia and Sven ahead of the first pitch to cook up some unique hot dog recipes for baseball season.

Here are the full recipes:

Banh mi Split-Dog

Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs, split lengthwise
  • 4 hot dog buns, trimmed and toasted
  • 1 recipe honey butter
  • 1 recipe Vietnamese Vegetable Slaw
  • 1 cucumber, sliced thin into bun length strips
  • 8-12 sprigs cilantro
  • 1-2 jalapenos sliced thin
  • Sriracha

Directions

  1. Heat a cast-iron pan on either the range top or a grill.
  2. While the pan is heating combine the carrots, daikon, sugar and fish sauce in a bowl.
  3. Blister the hot dogs cut-side down, then turn and blister the rounded side.
  4. To build the dogs, spread some honey butter on the inside of each bun and place the split hot dog in the bun. Top each dog with a few strips of cucumber, the carrot-daikon slaw, a few sprigs of cilantro, jalapenos and some sriracha.

Honey Butter

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor and pulse until uniformly combined.

Vietnamese vegetable slaw

Ingredients

  • 2 carrots, julienned
  • 1 (6-8-inch) segment daikon radish
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1½ tablespoons sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon fish sauce

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.

Cubano Split-Dog

Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs, split lengthwise
  • 4 hot dog buns, trimmed and toasted
  • 4 slices swiss cheese, torn in half
  • 1 cup smoked or roasted pork shoulder, shredded
  • 1-2 pickles, sliced thin lengthwise
  • 2 scallions bias cut
  • ½ red onion, minced
  • 2-3 porcini peppers, sliced thin
  • 1 recipe mustard sour cream sauce

Directions

  1. Heat a cast-iron pan on either the range top or a grill.
  2. Blister the hot dogs cut-side down, then turn and blister the rounded side. Then top with cheese slices and cover until cheese is melted.
  3. To build the dogs, place the split hot dog in the bun. Top each dog with a pickle slice, pork shoulder, scallions, red onion, porcini peppers and finally some mustard sour cream sauce.

Mustard Sour Cream Sauce

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.

BBQ Slaw Split-Dog

Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs, split lengthwise
  • 4 hot dog buns, trimmed and toasted
  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese, torn in half
  • 1 recipe BBQ Slaw
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked
  • 2 scallions, bias cut
  • ½ red onion, minced
  • Triple Crown Cayenne BBQ Sauce

Directions

  1. Heat a cast-iron pan on either the range top or a grill.
  2. Blister the hot dogs cut-side down, then turn and blister the rounded side. Then top with cheese slices and cover until cheese is melted.
  3. To build the dogs, place the split hot dog in the bun. Top each dog with a pickle slice, pork shoulder, scallions, red onion, porcini peppers and finally some mustard sour cream sauce.

BBQ Slaw

Ingredients

  • ½ head green cabbage
  • ¼ cup Triple Crown Cayenne BBQ Sauce
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup mayo
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon crushed black pepper

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.
