Switching careers during a pandemic? Here's what you should know

Switching careers, either by choice or by necessity? Here are some tips.

With the unemployment rate high and many industries losing revenue, now may seem like an inopportune time to make a career change.

However, some people may have no choice due to job loss, or consider a career shift because their current workplace is struggling.

HR and recruitment expert Trisha Farrow of Versique has some tips for those who are considering a switch:

  • Look for careers where you have transferable skills
  • If applying for a position you've never held or in an industry you've never worked in, highlight skills you've already learned elsewhere that are required for the new job
    • For example, if you worked in finance and now are applying for a job in manufacturing, highlight your attention to detail
  • Jobs in IT are picking up because of the additional technologies required to work from home
