3 firefighters suffer heat exhaustion battling Shorewood blaze

SHOREVIEW, Minn. - Fire destroyed a home on the 6100 block of Cathcart Drive in Shorewood on Saturday.

The blaze was called in around 1 p.m., and according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, crews were still on the scene as of 4 p.m. The family and their two pets were able to get out, according to deputies.

Three Excelsior firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and one was brought to the hospital, according to fire officials. They said a third alarm was called for the fire due to the heat.

When KARE 11 arrived on scene the house was fully engulfed in flames. The Excelsior Fire Department says the home was a total loss.

Fire officials believe it started in the garage and spread to the house.
