ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Minn. - Authorities say a Wright, Minnesota man has died after falling through the ice Monday afternoon in Fine Lakes Township.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's office says it happened around 1:55 p.m. Monday on Prairie Lake, south of Floodwood when a father and son were returning to the shore after ice fishing.

Authorities say a side-by-side vehicle broke through the ice, and the 61-year-old son, Mark Schulke of Duluth, was able to climb back on top of the ice.

They say the father, 82-year-old Wallace Schulke of Wright, Minnesota, stayed under and was recovered after spending about 20 minutes underwater.

Schulke was pronounced dead at the scene.

The son was taken to St. Mary's hospital in Duluth, where he's listed in stable condition.
