911 dispatcher recounts call reporting Jayme Closs found

Amy Pullen usually works nights at the Douglas County 911 center, but was working the first day shift in her career when a call came in that changed her life forever.

SUPERIOR, Wis. — The 911 dispatcher who answered the call that Jayme Closs was found is sharing her story.

Amy Pullen usually works nights at the Douglas County 911 center, but was working the first day shift in her career when a call came in that changed her life forever.

It was Kristin Kasinskas, reporting that her neighbor, Jeanne Nutter, had located a girl they believed to be Jayme Closs.

When she got the call her first thought was to keep Jayme safe in case the man who took her came looking.

“Everybody in the area knows the situation, what had happened to her parents and what this person could be capable of again," Pullen said. "To hear her faintly in the background and being a mom myself, the motherly instincts kicked in.”

Pullen stayed on the line for 30 minutes with Nutter and Kasinskas until deputies arrived.

"I wish I could have just gone through that phone myself and just sat with her, protect her," she said.

She’s taken thousands of 911 calls over the years, but says this one she’ll never forget.

"For the rest of my life I'm going to think about that little girl, where she's at in life and if she's going OK."
