CROSBY, Minn. - Authorities say the body of a 13-year-old Minneapolis boy was pulled from the water at Amour No. 2 Mine Pit lake in the Crosby area.

Sergeant Tyler Burke of the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office said divers recovered the body of the boy in about 92 feet of water around noon on Saturday. Burke said the boy was playing Frisbee with family members at the True North Base Camp on Friday evening, when he attempted to retrieve it and was swept in by heavy currents.

Family members attempted to rescue the boy but were unsuccessful.

Burke said the area where the child was swept in was near the inlet of a stream. Because of recent rains, the current was heavier than normal.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office deployed both drone and dive teams to the area. They were assisted by the Crosby and Deerwood Police Departments, along with a helicopter from the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Armour No. 2 Mine Pit lake is located in the Cuyuna State Recreation Area, northeast of Brainerd.
