SPRING PARK, Minn. - Hennepin County sheriff’s divers on Sunday located the body of a man believed to have been on a boat circling near the area of Big Island on Lake Minnetonka.

Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek said they received multiple 911 calls regarding the driverless boat Saturday evening.

Officials say the body was recovered around 10:15 a.m. from the same area that deputies had been searching for the missing boater since Saturday evening.

The man's body was recovered about 150 yards from the north shore of Big Island.

"We have a lot more questions than we have answers to, but we are committed to finding out what exactly happened and why," Stanek said.

Officials say the search began around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek said that it's the first boating fatality in the county this year.

The sheriff's office is investigating. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office will identify the body and release the cause of death.

Stanek also asked boaters to continue to be vigilant throughout the last few weeks of good lake weather.

"Remind people to be cautious, wear their life jackets, be concerned about alcohol consumption particularly if you're an operator of a boat," Stanek said. "Be courteous to others out on the waterways."
