BUFFALO, Minn. - A bull named Sniper is carrying on the legacy of a fallen Marine who gave up his rodeo dreams to serve his country.
Twenty-one-year-old Hunter "HD" Hogan was a rodeo cowboy from Nebraska. A competitor in bareback riding, saddle bronc and bull riding, Hogan turned down a college rodeo scholarship to join the Marines.
He was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 23, 2012.
Now a bull named Sniper is competing in Hogan's honor in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA).
Marty Barnes began bidding on Sniper when he realized that proceeds from the sale of the bull went to a scholarship fund in Hogan's memory.
Sniper threw his cowboy Friday night in Buffalo, Minnesota, making his record 3-1 on the five-year anniversary of Hogan's death.
Hogan's great uncle and aunt, Butch and Diane Bedient, drove from Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to watch Sniper compete.
