Clergy abuse victims advocate: Pennsylvania findings 'not the first or the last'

Each of the 1,000 abuse cases is individually horrific with one common theme. A cover-up.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Yesterday, two years of work by a Pennsylvania grand jury was released to the public.

That work detailed some of the most horrific sexual abuse allegations about Catholic priests ever seen.

The predators accused? 300 priests.

The victims? 1,000 children.

And the most haunting aspect above all is that it allegedly was systematically covered up and hidden by some of the most powerful in the church.

In more than 900 pages, the grand jury wrote about its findings all over Pennsylvania spanning more than 70 years.

Stories of a priest abusing five sisters in one family.

Stories of another priest admitting to sexually assaulting at least 12 boys only to be thanked by his bishop for quote "all that you have done for God's people.”

Each of the 1,000 abuse cases is individually horrific with one common theme. A cover-up.

Attorney Jeff Anderson, who for 35 years has fought for clergy abuse victims, sat down with KARE 11 to talk about it.

“The grand jury report is of no surprise to us and I wish it was, but it’s not,” Anderson said Wednesday. “Every time something like this gets revealed people get shocked but nothing seems to change. The reason it doesn't is because the Vatican has made a choice not to allow it.”
