MINNEAPOLIS — Lexii Alijai's death earlier this month shocked many in the local music scene.

The 21-year-old up-and-coming rapper from St. Paul died unexpectedly Jan. 1, and officials released Monday that it was due to mixing fentanyl and alcohol. According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, her death “due to mixed fentanyl and ethanol toxicity” was accidental.

Alijai was found unconscious and possibly suffering cardiac arrest at the Loews Minneapolis Hotel on New Year's Day. She was a rising star in the rap world and local radio hosts like Auggie 5000 with Go Radio say she was talented and had a great future ahead of her.

By the time Alijai was 18 she had already amassed 20,000 Instagram followers, more than 100,000 SoundCloud streams and an appearance on a Grammy-nominated album, according to the Star Tribune.

She appeared in clubs around the Twin Cities and was part of the Super Bowl Live festival on Nicollet Mall in January 2018.
