ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Court of Appeals has denied Keith Ellison's request to keep his divorce records sealed.

The ruling came just a couple of hours after Ellison's ex-wife, Minneapolis school board member Kim Ellison, made a public plea to keep the records sealed.

The Star Tribune and conservative website "Alpha News" requested the divorce files after abuse allegations were made against Keith Ellison in a different relationship. Rep. Ellison is running for Minnesota Attorney General in November.

Kim Ellison says there was never any abuse in their marriage, and the divorce records will only reveal personal details about her health.

"I'm ashamed that a judge finds it OK to exploit somebody's mental illness, and it's unconscionable that Alpha News and the Star Tribune want to use it to influence the outcome of an election," she said.

The divorce files could be released as soon as Wednesday.
