WAITE PARK, Minn. — A California man is jailed in Stearns County after a traffic stop led to the discovery of nearly 100 pounds of marijuana.
Prosecutors say 56-year-old Guy Raymond Gibeau of Phelan, California was pulled over after failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign in the city of Waite Park. An officer approached Gibeau's vehicle and immediately smelled "an overwhelming odor of marijuana" coming from the vehicle.
Gibeau was arrested on an active felony warrant, and a search of his vehicle yielded 91 one-pound bags of marijuana, about 41 kilos.
Richfield Police tweeted about the bust. They tell KARE 11 Richfield narcotics officers intercepted the drugs, but did not go into detail about the role they played.
Gibeau is now charged with second degree possession of 25 kilos or more of marijuana. If found guilty he could be sentenced to 25 years in prison.
