MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis man who's already been charged in one violent home invasion has now been charged in two more.

Robert Earl Buckingham has been charged with two more felony armed burglaries in Minneapolis, both in June.

Buckingham had already been charged in an Aug. 11 burglary which allegedly involved zip tying a teenager and stealing large amounts of cash.

In a criminal complaint filed Wednesday, Buckingham was charged with breaking into that same home months earlier, on June 2.

Investigators said they were able to identify Buckingham because the victim at that home recognized him the second time. Charges state that Buckingham came through the front door with a handgun the first time, on June 2, and demanded money, going into the bedroom and smashing a piggy bank.

In another alleged burglary on June 26, the complaint states that Buckingham came into a home on the 2700 block of 15th Avenue South at about 7 p.m., carrying a gun. He's accused of punching one victim in the face while pointing the gun at him.

In a search warrant related to the Aug. 11 case, an investigator said the crime was very similar to nearly two dozen others that targeted Hispanic families with children. Police said they believed Buckingham was targeting homes of undocumented families, as those victims are more likely to keep cash on hand instead of using banks. They may also be less likely to call police.
