ST PAUL, Minn. — Prosecutors say a 26-year-old Burnsville man shot a gun at a St. Paul bar after getting kicked out on Christmas Day. He is also accused of causing a crash after leading police on a short car chase.
Davin Levon McCray is charged with second-degree assault and possessing a firearm while being a felon. Both charges are felonies.
According to the criminal complaint, St. Paul police officers were called to Shady's Bar on Dodd Rd. just before 7:30 Wednesday evening on a report of an intoxicated man who had been kicked out of the bar after fighting with customers.
Police received another call that the man had fired a gun through the door into the bar.
When officers arrived they saw bullet holes in the door.
Witnesses say "the bullets penetrated the door and were breaking bottles near the bartender and bar patrons. Officers recovered numerous bullet fragments mixed in with broken alcohol bottles inside the bar," according to the complaint.
No one at the bar was injured.
Prosecutors say police officers spotted McCray a short time later in a car but he sped away.
After a short chase, McCray crashed into another vehicle. Authorities did not provide any information about any possible injuries in that crash.
Police officers say they found a handgun in the snow "near the defendant."
According to the complaint, McCray has a long criminal history that includes convictions for burglary, domestic assault and fleeing police.
