Dakota County crash kills 2 fathers

A crash in Dakota County took the lives of two fathers on the night before Father's Day.

VERMILLION TOWNSHIP, Minn. - Two fathers were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Vermillion Township on Saturday night, according to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office reports that the crash happened at about 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of Goodwin Avenue and 190th Street East.

According to witnesses, a Ford F-150 pickup driven by Jon Fontaine, 36, of Farmington, with his 12-year-old son in the vehicle, was headed south on Goodwin and did not slow for the stop sign at 190th, Dakota County said. The truck went through the intersection and collided with a Chevrolet Traverse headed west on 190th, sending both vehicles into the ditch, according to the sheriff's office.

The Traverse was driven by Jillayne Lazer, 33, of Rosemount, with her husband, Jared Lazer, 34, and their three children, ages 5, 5 and 2.

The sheriff's office reports that both Jared Lazer and Jon Fontaine died at the scene. The other five people involved in the crash were brought to the hospital with apparently non-life-threatening injuries.

"Sadly, this tragedy took the lives of two fathers the day before Father's Day," a press release from the sheriff's office stated. "The Dakota County Sheriff's Office sends our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims."

The Minnesota State Patrol is helping to investigate the crash.

A neighbor of the Lazer family has set up a GoFundMe page to support the family here.
