Don't expect snow to scare off high school hockey fans

Despite a snowy forecast, the Boys' Hockey Tournament at Xcel Energy Center shouldn't be lacking for fans

ST. PAUL - Everyone inside Xcel Energy Center is aware that it's going to snow on Saturday. It's unfortunate timing for the championship day of the Boys' State Hockey Tournament.

But don't expect snow to sideline any fans.

Demand remains high, with StubHub listing the cheapest tickets at about $100 for the AA title game.

"(This tournament) is something they do once a year, and there's good reason for it. It just creates all this excitement," said Dan Schafer, who has attended the tournament for three decades. "I don't think 6 or 8 inches of snow is gonna stop anyone from coming that really wants to get here."

You could find the same answer around the arena.

Bridget Wollak, for example, had the standard response: "We're from Minnesota. We're used to it."

So did a group of young Blaine fans, assuming (or hoping) they would win their semifinal game: "We'll be here."

And that's the State of Hockey for you.

"Diehard hockey fans," Schafer said, "are diehard hockey fans."
