A man who was seen speeding down a highway in Brooklyn Park Monday night suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing into an unoccupied vehicle, according to State Patrol.

Troopers say the Jeep Patriot driven by a 36-year-old Brooklyn Park man was driving at a high rate of speed in the right lane of Highway 610 when it passed the exit for Highway 252 and crashed into a Mercury Sable parked on the shoulder.

The man was trapped in his heavily-damaged vehicle and had to be mechanically extricated.

He was transported to North Memorial hospital in Robbinsdale.

The State Patrol Media website says drug use is thought to be a factor in the crash.
