MINNEAPOLIS - Longtime WCCO sportscaster Ralph Jon Fritz has died after a long battle with stomach cancer, according to WCCO-TV.
Fritz began his 40-year run at WCCO-TV in 1968. In April 2015, he announced he'd been diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. He underwent chemotherapy treatments, but last month was admitted to hospice care, according to his CaringBridge page.
"I want to thank all of you for all your prayers, cards, phone calls,e-mails, texts and visits. Without you I would have never come this far. The BEST part of all is knowing we will meet again," he wrote.
Fritz was 78.
